Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT is an evidence based talking therapy used to treat many difficulties. Research has proven that it is as effective as medication as a treatment for anxiety and depression.
CBT focusses on the links between how we think, feel, behave and our physical symptoms. These four factors all influence one another. Negative thoughts and behaviours can trap you in a vicious cycle. In CBT you and your therapist will test out tools to challenge the negative behaviours and thinking patterns that are driving the negative cycle. This is turn can improve the way you feel emotionally and physically.
Although CBT is focused on the here and now, the problems that you are experiencing now, it can be beneficial to explore where these problems developed in your history.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).
EMDR UK describes the therapy as follows: EMDR is a powerful scientifically proven psychotherapy to help people recover from traumatic events in their lives which have led to poor mental health.
EMDR therapy is best known for treating PTSD but can help with a range of mental health conditions in people of all ages including depression and anxiety.
How EMDR works:
Sometimes events that happen to us are not processed properly by the brain because it is in fight or flight mode. This can lead to a number of different emotional difficulties. Memories are essentially stuck. EMDR works by helping the brain to reprocess the "stuck" memories. The processing of these memories means that negative symptoms can improve. Some people prefer EMDR to a talking therapy, such as CBT, because it involves less talking through your memories.
